This is the suffix icon. A suffix is added to the end of a base or root word to change its meaning.
For example, if we add Suffix -S to the end of “cup” and create the new word “cups”, we change the meaning from “one cup” to “more than one cup.”
There are more than 100 suffixes in English.
We do not teach them all; instead, we focus on some of the most commonly used ones.
It is more important for the Learner to recognize the different ways suffixes are added to the ends of words and how they can change the base or root word’s meaning.
