When a two-syllable word has a short vowel sound followed by ending /kəL/, use -CKLE, as in “freckle”; otherwise, use -KLE, as in “sprinkle”. When a three-syllable word ends with /kəL/, use -CLE, as in “popsicle”.
When dividing, keep the last consonant+LE together, as it forms a C+LE syllable.
