When vowel I is followed by Suffix -ON, the combined ending may be reduced to a syllable that starts with a glide sound followed by a schwa and says /yən/ or /yin/, depending on the speaker, as in “million”.

I followed by Suffix -AN is another combined ending that may be reduced to a syllable that starts with a glide sound with a schwa and says /yən/, as in Canadian.
When Suffix -ON is combined with a digraph, as in digraph Suffix -TION and digraph Suffix -SION, a schwa syllable is created, as in “ejection”, “extension”, or “invasion”.
