g

When consonant G is followed by vowel Y, I, or E, it will often give way, or “yield”, to its soft sound: /j/, /j/, /j/, giraffe.
Gift, give, get, and begin are common words where G does not yield to its soft sound.
Twin consonants GG in the middle of word and followed by Y, I, or E, will typically say its hard sound, as in foggy.
A few exceptions include exaggerate, suggest, arpeggio, and squeegee.
