WE AREN’T DONE YET!
OUR GOALS FOR FUTURE PHASES
HELP ADULTS BECOME THEIR OWN HEROES
We want to develop LexiaHeroes to be so intuitive that adults can discretely help themselves to read.
Schools do not teach reading adequately and as a result, more than 20% of adults in the US are illiterate and 54% have inadequate literacy, approximately 70% of US prisoners have inadequate or no literacy.
Our clinic regularly receives calls from adults looking for help. Insurance agents, real estate brokers, electricians, fire fighters, and police officers call us asking for help. Often because they are worried how their reading challenges can affect their job retention or advancement.
Prisoners call needing help. In the US, 75% of prisoners have poor literacy. Yet, literacy programs in prisons are rare or rarely effective, and cost the taxpayer $25,000 per prisoner/per year. Only 16% of prisoners who have sufficient literacy go back to prison, 70% of prisoner who are literate will not return.
Offer Automatic and Customized Practice and Planning Options
Informed by the science of errorless learning, we will use data to have targeted responses for a Learner’s current, changing needs and develop optimized lesson plans for their unique, future needs.
Learning science supports what we know: Progress is fickle. Measurement is not always meaningful. What is finessed today, can be lost tomorrow. Grade-levels are artificial. Averages don’t represent a single individual. What is known confidently in one context becomes a mystery in another.
Help Our Learners’ Future Children
Dyslexia is genetic, so legacy is very important to us. We will support other research-based programs on our platform and gather meaningful information from all programs to analyze for the benefit of other Learners.
Educational research does not adequately account for diverse types of reading challenges, their causes, and how they affect different Learner profiles.
Even though we know what works, and there are several established Orton-Gillingham programs, we still don’t know what works best for the individual Learner or for how long. No size fits all… and some sizes need to be changed after a while.
Provide Sustainable Solutions for Schools
Using supportive technology, we help all children who struggle–a lot or a little—by reducing the need for scarce resources of time and money. Intuitive design and program adaptability will make it for classroom teachers, paras, and volunteers to facilitate small group instruction effectively, while having the unique needs of individual Learners met
In response to increasingly scarce resources, schools use a “wait to fail” model. Only those who are most profoundly challenged will qualify and will rarely receive the time, intensity, long-term consistency, or approach they require.
Sometimes reading at the tenth percentile is “good enough”, or reading at a third-grade level in high school doesn’t even raise an eyebrow. Schools are not concerned when a bright child starts to perform below their ability. As a result, MOST Learners with reading challenges will fall through the cracks, told to try harder, focus more or put in small group instruction where they also don’t have their needs addressed.
Learners Love Learning
Our Learners work appropriately hard and enjoy the process and the results.
There are several elements of gaming that could translate into helping Learners develop through intrinsic motivators, personalized goals, and meaningful rewards. Our Learners have given us a LOT of information how we and they can enhance LexiaHeroes through artwork, avatar creation, related games and how they would be their own community of support.
