-s

When Suffix -S is added to the end of a word, it changes its meaning in two ways.
One way is to make a word “plural”, or “more than one”.
When we add Suffix -S to “cup” to create “cups”, we change its meaning from “one cup” to “more than one cup”.
Suffix -S can make two sounds.
It typically makes a /s/ sound when it follows unvoiced consonants.
Sometimes, it will make a /z/ sound when it follows vowels or voiced consonants.
However, it is very common that with some speakers, the /z/ sound may sound more muted or like /s/.
